Moving Forward For Seniors

Monday, January 15 our nation remembers a man, Martin Luther King Jr., who inspired us toward equality, progress and kindness. One quote that we admire is:

“If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. inspired our nation to move forward in many ways, and we are thankful for his inspiration and example.

Howard Liss, M.D. Rehabilitation Institute promotes moving forward physically as well. If you are a senior, and wish to stay active, forward movements may be difficult for you. Forward movements, such as walking, have many benefits to your health.

The practice of walking is important for seniors due to its many benefits. Senior adults run the risk of osteoporosis and walking can help maintain bone mass. Walking helps with stability and balance in seniors. When you walk, you engage your hip, abdominals and other muscles to maintain balance. Your joints will thank you for walking because joint fluid is produced and this decreases the speed of your cartilage deteriorating in your body. Walking also helps keep you at a healthy weight, which will promote your mobility.

If you are a senior, or have a senior member of your family, movement is very important. If you suffer from an inability or difficulty in moving, contact Howard Liss Rehabilitation Institute today to schedule physical therapy for seniors.
