Injury Prevention
Injuries and accidents happen. They’re never planned for, so when they do occur, you need a plan for recovery. Dr. Howard Liss Rehabilitation Institute offers to be a link between numerous specialties while providing wisdom, recommendations, treatment and rehabilitation as it relates to your injuries. We want to encourage your overall wellness and quality of life.
While you can’t always foresee an accident that’s about to happen, there are changes you can make to your daily life to prevent major injuries when an accident occurs.
- Maintain a healthy diet. While you continue hydrating your body well, eat a balanced diet. For energy, consume carbohydrates. After your workout, eat proteins to help repair your muscles that you just broke down.
- Strength training and core work is a great way to keep your body strong and to keep injuries from occurring.
- Gradually introduce new physical activities into your routines. Do not go full speed when learning or practicing something new. Slow and gradual movements into your new activity will help your body get accustomed to the new physical requirements that it demands.
- Warming up before your physical activity is important. Muscles that are cold are more susceptible to injury. Ensure that you’ve increased your body’s core temperature, and get your blood flowing to the muscles that you will be working.
- Cool down and stretch after physical activity. Cooling down means a gradual decrease in your activity at the end of your workout. You’ll also need to stretch your muscles during your cool down while they are nice and warm. Stretching will help reduce your buildup of lactic acid, which may lead to your muscles cramping and rigidity.
Call our office and book your appointment today if you’ve suffered injuries. We will help get you back on your feet, and on the road to lifelong recovery!
